TECH DATA - LIQUID FLANGED END TURBINE FLOW METERS
Turbines, Inc. provides liquid turbine flow meters with flanged ends, or other specialty in from line sizes from 3/8" through 10". In fact, the complete TM In-Line product line is available with flanges from 150 # ANSI through 2500 # ANSI, as required by your application. The pressure ratings and performance data pertinent to our flanged end turbine flow meters is identical to those represented on the TM-In-Line product line data. The standard flanges utilized in the production of our flanged and turbine flow meters are 316 stainless steel raised face. The meter nomenclature is the same as the TM series, but includes a suffix identifying the ANSI flange rating required, for example:
BASIC OPERATING THEORY Turbine flow meter technology has been available for over four decades. The turbine type flow meter is a novel device that consists of a precisely machined body with defined entrance and exit cross sections within which is suspended specially designed turbine fan (rotor) supported by rotor supports that house bearings into which the shaft on which the rotor rotates is firmly installed. This configuration permits the rotor to spin freely as line fluid flowing axially through the body encounters the rotor. The body of the turbine meter is machined too accept a hub that allows a magnetic pick-up to be positioned perpendicular to the axis of the flow meter, and directly above the rotor, separated by the wall of the body of the meter. As the rotor spins, it affects the magnetic field provided by the magnetic pick-up, creating a sinusoidal pulse directly proportional to the local velocity of the line fluid moving through the meter. This pulse is, in turn, interpreted by the flow monitor and expressed as flow rate read out appropriate to the application requirements. The flow rate is inferred by multiplying the local velocity with the local area to which the velocity is referred. In order to verify the relationship between a specific meter and a particular flow rate range, the turbine meter is laboratory calibrated to establish the specific k-factor of the meter, which is unique to that particular meter and non-transferable. The definition of k-factor is the number of pulses per unit of volume. Turbine flow meters are especially useful because the accuracy and repeatability of the technology is extremely good and k-factor is typically linear over a 10 to 1 range. Depending upon line fluid composition and characteristics, various materials of construction are required, and the design of the rotor blade angles must be properly executed. Turbines, Inc. turbine flow meters designed for liquid service must not be used with gas, since the liquid line fluid serves to lubricate the bearings. The design of the Turbines, Inc. liquid in-line turbine flow meter is specifically engineered to produce a performance envelope ideally suited for clear non-solids bearing liquids such as water, brine, chemicals and petrochemicals.
